Ripples, Ripples | 2025 | Het Archief, Rotterdam

In Conversation with Iconic Painters

There’s a persistent myth that artists retreat into solitary caves - cut off from the rhythms of the world - to conjure their creations in isolation. In truth, artists are far from disconnected. They are channels of an unbroken thread that ties the present to the past. Their works are often contemporary dialogues with art history, while paying homage to the movements that shaped them.

Ripples, Ripples brings together two contemporary artists who engage in a lively dialogue with the echoes of abstraction and photorealism, drawing inspiration from pioneers such as Gerhard Richter. Their paintings are more than tributes; they are witty responses to towering traditions. Like ‘ripples’ in a vast artistic current, this exhibition sparks new conversations with iconic painters who shaped the flow of art history.

Of(f) The Grid | 2022 | SalonSalon, Rotterdam

Of(f) The Grid brings together the works of Bram Vanderbeke, Tim Mastik and Tim Reuser who share a passion for researching material qualities, tactility and repetition. They are also intrigued by grids.

By stacking similar or modular components, either sculpturally or on canvas, all three artists are looking to achieve a rhythmic quality. Although the word ‘grid’ implies a very geometrical and stern method of working, a certain degree of imperfection is allowed to permeate the final outcome. It’s these flaws and glitches that stress the sensibility and human touch present in each of these works, which ultimately give them their poetic allure.

Wild Summer of Art | 2022 | Brutus, Rotterdam

It is not often that the energy, work and artistic intelligence of so many can be seen together in one location. In this exhibition, the ecosystem of the city is reflected and tangible. And: perhaps even more important, artists see each other.

For this exhibition I am showing new series of work. The Glitch series: An act between control and surrender. Accepting outcomes in the process, iterate, and exploring what comes next. The works appear to be thought-out concepts, but are also action paintings as the final layer changes the entire work.
